Irritable bowel syndrome is a chronic non inflammatory disorder in which the person experiences increased or abnormal gut contractions and gut sensations. It often causes abdominal cramps, pain, bloating , diarrhoea and constipation.
In Ayurveda, IBS can be co-related to Grahani roga in which undigested food or incompletely digested food is recurrently evacuated from the body, and the person feels weak and lethargic. Ayurvedic Treatment has shown very successful results in irritable bowel syndrome, focusing mainly deepana, pachana, vata- pitta harana and nadi pariksha based treatment.
